The idea (and reality) of Schumer and Lawrence presenting together this year was exciting enough — now imagine an entire show devoted to their delightfully vulgar sense of humor and enviable onscreen chemistry.
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill
Sure, their bear bit at this year’s show wasn’t the most captivating, but they’ve previously proved their brotherly rapport and comedic chops playing opposite each other in the hilarious 21 Jump Street franchise. The Globes could use some goofiness, and these two are well-equipped to provide that.
Andy Samberg
Saturday Night Live alum Samberg already hosted 2015’s Emmy Awards to great success thanks to solid jokes and a fun (and topical) opening number, so it’s no doubt he’d also shine at the Golden Globes. Plus, his intro for the Best TV Comedy Actress award at this year’s Globes — which included him making up things about the night like that Tom Hanks barfed and Patrick Stewart removed his bald cap — was one of the night’s most amusing moments.
John Oliver
As host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, Oliver’s perfected a comedy style that’s part biting commentary, part playful silliness — a style that would translate well to a big, self-important event like an awards show.
America Ferrera and Eva Longoria
The Golden Globes previously misidentified Ferrera as Gina Rodriguez on its Twitter account, so Ferrera took that mix-up as an opportunity to make a point — and a joke: Ferrera introduced herself as “not Gina Rodriguez” when she came onstage to present with Longoria, who introduced herself as “not Eva Mendes.” The two actresses are charming on their own and even more so together, and their bit was short, sweet, and tongue-in-cheek.
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele
Key and Peele ran for a strong, occasionally Emmy-nominated five seasons before going off the air in 2015, and an awards show like the Golden Globes would be an appropriate venue for the duo to give viewers a reunion. While previous hosts like Gervais have opted for straightforward monologues, Key and Peele would likely take advantage of their sketch backgrounds and opt for a more nontraditional — and, as a result, probably more entertaining — introduction.
Seth Meyers
Meyers is the popular guy at school that everyone genuinely likes because he’s, well, genuine — and honest-to-goodness funny. Like Samberg, Meyers’ years on SNL prepped him for live work, as well as his more recent ongoing gig as host of Late Night.
Aziz Ansari
Ansari’s energetic onstage persona is just the kind that would liven up the Golden Globes, a show that tends to drag on interminably. He’s already everywhere — he has a book, standup career, and television show — so adding “beloved awards show host” to his résumé only seems like the next logical step.
Gina Rodriguez and Rachel Bloom
Rodriguez won a Golden Globe for playing the title character on the CW’s Jane the Virgin in 2015, and Bloom won a Golden Globe for playing the title character on the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in 2016 — so what better way to celebrate their newfound stardom than by giving them a show to take over for the night? Between Bloom’s proven musical abilities, Rodriguez’s noted rap skills, and the pair’s infectious sunniness, they would surely add some much-needed spark to the show.
Stephen Colbert
Colbert interviews stars every day as host of The Late Show, and he does so while showing off his trademark sharp sense of humor without ever getting unnecessarily mean. It’s a quality that makes him a successful late night host, and that could make him ideal choice for the Golden Globes – a job where the most successful hosts are the ones that lovingly rib the night’s attendees.ew,youtube
