Rose McMcGowan Was Raped By A Hollywood Bigwig

Rose McGowan is opening up about her harrowing experience as a rape victim in Hollywood.
In a series of strongly worded tweets posted Thursday, McGowan called out the movie industry for failing to support her after she was raped by an unnamed studio head.

Tweeting under the hashtag #WhyWomenDontReport, McGowan wrote, “A (female) criminal attorney said because I’d done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head.”

She continued in another tweet, “Because it’s been an open secret in Hollywood/media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist.”

McGowan added, “Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution.” And in her final tweet she wrote, “It’s time for some goddamn honesty in this world.”

Her statements come in the wake of the bevy of sexual assault allegations against Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump. Several women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump in the past several days — all of which Trump vehemently denies — and the reports have reignited public discussion of what has been deemed “rape culture.”

Roger Ailes’ departure from Fox News this summer — spurred by Gretchen Carlson and Andrea Tantaros’ claims of sexual harassment — also sparked public conversation on the subject.

McGowan has been outspoken on issues of sexual assault, and recently compared her experience walking the red carpet at Hollywood events as “visual rape.”
