Mariah Carey Says Time on ‘American Idol’ Was ‘Abusive’

Mariah-Carey-TCA-08032016
Mariah Carey does not have many warm and fuzzy feelings about her time on American Idol.
At the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Wednesday (Aug. 3), where Carey was promoting her eight-part upcoming E! docuseries, Mariah’s World, the singer was asked about her time judging on the singing competition show with Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.

“It was the most abusive experience. By the way you’ve just driven me to drink,” Mariah quipped and then proceeded to take a big swig of champagne.
Billboard caught up with Idol’s exec producer Nigel Lythgoe and asked what he thought of that comment (via The Hollywood Reporter). “I’m looking forward to Mariah’s new series and wondering if Nicki Minaj may guest,” which refers pretty directly to the now infamous feud between Mariah and Minaj on the show. Yep, no bad blood there.

Mariah’s World will give fans an inside look to her chaotic world as a mother, a fiancée, and a world-famous pop diva.
