On Monday, Milo Yiannopoulos a conservative writer at Breitbart (who was booted from the social media platform afterwards) led an attack against Jones via Twitter that at one point had the actress fending off one attacker at a time. She was reportedly compared to Harambe, the male gorilla that was shot in a Cincinnati zoo in May; she was also sent pornography during the barrage.
Finally, on Monday night she tweeted: “I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie.”
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey spoke with Jones directly during and after the flood of hateful comments, but it’s unclear if they had anything to do with her return besides the ousting of Yiannopolous. But Twitter did welcome her back:
