Zika Causes Less than Expected Anxiousness

 by Emma Tiller.Congressional Republicans have been urged by the White House and Democrats to implement the instructions by President Barack Obama to create funds for fighting against Zika.However, even though the mosquito season that is responsible for spreading the virus has commenced, no widespread anxiousness has been witnessed. The president demanded raising $1.9 billion to combat the virus two months ago, but republicans from the states like Florida, Texas,
Louisiana and Georgia have been lagging behind in sanctioning the demand, though their states are at the highest risk of being attacked by the virus.

Zika is known to be responsible for causing severe birth defects and as of now over 470 cases of Zika have been reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention across the nation. All the reported cases are related to travel to regions affected by the virus. According to the advisers to GOP legislators, including the ones representing the most susceptible Southern areas, they have not yet heard much of urgency.



The National Governors Associated entered the scenario and suggested the administration and lawmakers coming back to Washington to jointly work towards reaching a deal on suitable amount of funds that will be required to make arrangements and eventually fight against the virus.

A reason for the relaxed attitude towards combat with Zika can be Ebola that affected much less people as compared to the level of anxiousness caused by it, which was much more than the Zika fear. The anxiousness towards Ebola was not justified and infected only very less people in the US. In 2014, $5 billion was sanctioned by Congress to combat Ebola, with probably 50% of those funds still unutilized. The administration has plans in place to utilize the remaining funds for helping those countries that are less developed in terms of their healthcare systems.NH voice
