Rachel Roy: 5 Things to Know About the Designer Caught in the Lemonade Firestorm

Rachel Roy: 5 Things to Know About the Designer Caught in the Lemonade Firestorm
No, she's not a celebrity chef (poor Rachael Ray!). Over the weekend, the Beyhive started a witch-hunt for "Becky with the good hair," a woman whom Beyoncé alleges on her album Lemonade cheated with her husband Jay Z. After Rachel Roy fanned the flames with a since-deleted Instagram post about having "good hair" and "drama queens," the singer's fans quickly focused their anger on the fashion designer, forcing her to make her Instagram page private for the night and defend herself on Twitter. Here are five things to know about this maybe "Becky," who just canceled a scheduled appearance for a "personal emergency."

1. She's best friends with Kim Kardashian West.

It wouldn't be a proper tangled web without some Kardashian involvement. Roy has been besties with the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star for years. They've often sat front row together at fashion shows, and Roy was an integral member of Kardashian's wedding squad. Making things a little tricky, of course, is that the reality star's husband Kanye West is close pals with Jay Z.

2. She had a very contentious split from her ex-husband Damon Dash.

Roy was awarded a three-year restraining order against her ex-husband, who also had a very dramatic break-up with his longtime pal and former business partner Jay Z (West took the latter's side). "He said, 'It's business,'" Dash previously told New York magazine. "We were always supposed to be about more than business, Jay especially." Roy has two daughters with Dash, but she has sole physical custody of both girls.

3. She's a very successful fashion designer.

Aside from styling Kardashian, Roy has also worked with a ton of A-listers, including Kate Hudson, Chrissy Teigen and Jennifer Garner. Her designs have even reached the White House – First Lady Michelle Obama has worn Roy's colorful dresses and separates for various events (including President Obama's 2011 State of the Union) through the years.

4. She may have been at the center of elevator-gate.

Never mess with the sister of a woman scorned. While we may never really know what caused Solange to attack her brother-in-law in that elevator at a Met Gala after party, one source told PEOPLE at the time "Solange was provoked by Rachel." Beyoncé later referenced the incident in her song "Flawless," writing "We escalate up in this bitch like elevators / Of course sometimes s--- goes down when it's a billion dollars on an elevator."

5. She's a very big fan of motivational messages.

Before she set her Instagram page ablaze with the now-infamous (and very much deleted) post about having great hair, fans of the designer were treated to gorgeous fashion shots, the rare photo of North West and ever-present motivational quotes.

"Let the waters settle and you will see the moon and the stars mirrored in your own being," she posted a week ago. We're thinking Roy's really hoping the waters settle for her soon.people
