The spouses were scheduled to appear as honorary co-chairs at a West Hollywood event on behalf of the Stuart House Benefit, which is a facility that helps victims and those affected by sexual abuse. An event rep told Entertainment Tonight that the Magic Mike XXL actor, 39, dropped out due to "health issues."
Fashion designer John Varvatos, who extended the invite to the couple, also reacted to Manganiello's cancellation on Sunday.
"Joe's been a big part of what we've done over the years. He's been a great personal friend. He's been involved in all of our — the last four or five years — our Stuart House events," Varvatos said to ET. "Basically they just couldn't make it because [he] is recovering. I don't know a lot about it other than that he's had a little bit of a health problem. We wish him the best. We thank him for all his support that he's given us and, most importantly, to get well soon because he's such a wonderful guy."
Manganiello made headlines last week after dropping out of the History Channel's upcoming series Six. A rep for the network confirmed to Us Weekly that production for Six was also being delayed as Manganiello's role was being recast.
Six is centered on the story of Navy SEAL Team Six's mission to kill a Taliban leader, and Manganiello was cast as squad leader Rip Taggart. A source told Us that Manganiello had dropped out of the series due to health issues and the physical demands required of the role.
Another insider told Us that Manganiello will be OK as his condition is nothing new and is manageable.
While he hasn't addressed his latest, Manganiello blasted a really sweet tweet on Sunday about his wife of five months Vergara.
I love my wife
