Update:Abba Moro goes Back to Kuje Prison

Abba Moro
A former minister of interior, Abba Moro, is to spend at least one more night at the Kuje prison in Abuja. Following the hearing on his bail application, the judge over the case,
Anwuli Chikere, adjourned the ruling to Thursday, March 3. At the resumed hearing, counsel to the first defendant, Akinlolu Kehinde, argued that Moro has served the country diligently as a minister and since the investigation has honoured invitations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Kehinde said that his client have complied with the investigative activities of the agency and will not jump bail. He also noted that Moro is sick and will need some immediate medical attention which cannot be received in the prison facility. But opposing the application the prosecuting counsel, Aliyu Yusuf, said that the first and the third defendant have not placed sufficient evidence to prove that they are sick. Yusuf also argued that diabetes which the minister claimed to be suffering from can be treated at the medical facility of Kuje prison. However, counsel to the fourth defendant, Ibrahim Ameh, prayed the court to strike out Drexrel Global Technical. According to him, the company’s name was erroneously included in the charges. He argued that in count 1, 2, 9, 10 and 11 no allegations were made against the company. However, the EFCC in its objection said the company was not represented in court and, therefore, the application cannot be tendered. . But Chikere after listening to the arguments struck out the name of the company pending the amended of the charges by the EFCC. She further adjourned the matter to Thursday, March 3, for ruling on the bail application. Meanwhile, the EFCC has begun a manhunt for Mahmood Ahmadu, the fugitive associate of the former minister of the interior. The commission has asked the international police (INTERPOL) and other agencies in the United Kingdom to apprehend Ahmadu, who had earlier shut down three of his UK companies.naij
