‘Scandal’: Will Fitz Ever Find Out About Olivia’s Abortion? Shonda Rhimes Spills

Scandal Fitz Olivia Abortion
While at the PaleyFest panel for ‘Scandal’ on March 15, Shonda Rhimes revealed whether Fitz will ever find out about Olivia’s abortion. Plus, we learned if the ABC drama will soon be coming to an end. Find out all the details here!

It’s the question every Scandal fan has been asking — will Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) ever find out about Olivia’s (Kerry Washington) abortion? Well, executive producer Shonda Rhimes answered that very question during the show’s PaleyFest panel on March 15. Plus, she discussed her plan for the series’ eventual conclusion. Is the end near? We’ve got the scoop!

When a fan from the audience, inside Dolby Theatre, asked Shonda if Fitz will eventually learn about the abortion, she said, “My question is: Does he need to? A woman made a choice about her body that she legally has the right to make. I haven’t actually decided, but I wonder sometimes. We talk about it a lot.”

Kerry and Tony, however, have their own opinions on the subject. While talking to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, Kerry said, “I sort of dread the day that Olivia tells him. Although, I think it’s important that she does. But that’s just my own personal opinion.” Of course, we also dread that day because it could be the end for Olitz if he were to ever find out. But on a positive note, Tony told us, “I don’t think that anything Olivia could do would make Fitz not love her.”That’s good news for Olivia and Fitz, but Shonda made it very clear that the show is about more than just their relationship. She said, “Olivia is on a journey. Olivia’s been on a journey since we started. It’s interesting to me that her primary story is a romance. That’s what you’ve seen. To me, her primary story has been discovery of herself. I’m happy that you have fallen in love with Fitz, because that is the journey that Olivia went on. She fell in love, got the fantasy and she discovered the fantasy was not real. That does not mean she does not love Fitz, and it does not mean that Fitz is not worthy of love. It just means that Olivia does not know who she is yet. The idea that they were together under the circumstances in which they were together — that she was going to move into the White House and become Mellie (Bellamy Young), who was the unhappiest woman we’ve ever seen — was a farce. That she’d surrender herself to be a prisoner of the White House and be an appendage of him, that was never going to work. For Olivia, the breaking free of that, while painful, was the first step toward realizing that she was not who she was meant to be. Her father has been saying that, and while he represents evil to a lot of you, he also represents truth.”

And when Shonda was asked how long Olivia’s journey may last, she said, “We know where [the series] ends and when it ends.” She didn’t give a timeframe, but she did add, “I’ve always had the end point in mind.” Mind you, the series was recently renewed by ABC for a sixth season.hollywoodlife
