Yunusa Adamu Dangwani and other political associates of Rabiu Kwankwaso were apprehended over an alleged plan to hold a political rally in Kano.
Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, the chief of staff to former governor of Kano state Rabiu Kwankwaso, was reportedly arrested on Saturday, March 19.

Daily Trust reports that Dangwani and other political associates of Kwankwaso were apprehended over an alleged plan to hold a political rally in the state.

The men were detained overnight at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kano state police command.

When contacted, Aminu Abdulsalam, the former commissioner for state affairs, said that Dangwani was arrested in connection with the current political impasse between his boss and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. He also dispelled rumours that Kwankwaso’s aide was planning a political rally in the state.

“We are right now at the police command trying to secure Dangwani’s bail. His arrest has nothing to do with any political rally,” he said.
Another source familiar with the development revealed that Governor Ganduje had already intervened and ordered Dangwani’s release.

Magaji Musa Majia, the spokesman of the police command, confirmed the arrest of some politicians but did not disclose their names.

Meanwhile, Sharu Garba Gwammaja, a former media aide to the ex-governor, has accused Ganduje of persecuting Kwankwaso’s allies for exposing an alleged approval of N688m for members of the state House of Assembly as a reward for renouncing the red cap.

“Last Tuesday, the lawmakers visited the governor and on Wednesday, a proposal to purchase vehicles for the legislators to the tune of N688m was tabled and approved at the State Executive Council meeting for them to purchase vehicles.

“This approval is a way of rewarding the assembly members for discarding their red caps. In the deal, each lawmaker will get N17.2 million as payment for his red cap,” he said

Although Gwammaja did not have any documents to prove his words, he stressed that he would stand by his claim.

However, shortly after the telephone conversation with journalists Gwammaja was arrested by the police.

When contacted, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, the majority leader of the House, said that Kwankwaso’s former aide was arrested after the House had instituted a legal action against him.

“This is a very serious allegation against the lawmakers and the House will not take it lightly. We will follow this matter to its logical conclusion until justice is prevailed. We have lodged our complaints to the police and Gwammaja was arrested,” he said.

In a related development, the Kano state executive committee of the All Progressives Congress suspended Umar Doguwa, the chairman of the party, for being loyal to the ex-governor.

A few days earlier, the House of Assembly impeached the chief whip of the House, Zubairu Mahmud, over his loyalty to Kwankwaso.naij
