Telenovela star, Kate del Castillo, has finally spoken publicly about her now infamous meeting with Mexican drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, and Sean Penn.
The 43-year-old TV star sat down with Diane Sawyer to talk about her meeting and seemingly flirtatious text message conversations with Guzman.
According to del Castillo, she was never romantically involved with the now-incarcerated kingpin but believe perhaps he was more enamored of her La Reina del Sur character, Teresa Mendoza, a fictitious drug lord.
As for Sean Penn’s participation in the meeting, del Castillo originally believed that the Oscar winner was helping her convince Guzman to give her the rights to his life story.
She had no idea that Penn was actually doing research for an in-depth article he was writing for Rolling Stone, which would later be published.
As a result, Kate says she was “hurt” and adds, “I think he was never interested in the movie, I’m angry at myself because I believe in people, and I didn’t know Sean Penn.”
The attorney general of Mexico has gone on record saying that del Castillo is under investigation for possibly receiving money from Guzman to fund her tequila company, Honor del Castillo.
El Chapo was recaptured in January after he had previously escaped last summer from a maximum-security prison in Mexico.celebuzz,youtube
