dropped on January 8th. The Madlib-produced track marks the first time West and the To Pimp a Butterfly rapper have appeared together on a song, and while Lamar garnered all the acclaim in 2015, West uses their collaboration to showcase his own unparalleled skills.
"I soooo didn't mean to lie to you guys about GOOD FRIDAYS coming back. Kanye flew to Italy for a Yeezy Season 3 fitting," the rapper's wife Kim Kardashian tweeted Saturday after the promised Every Friday track didn't show up. "He flew Noah out with him so he could finish "No More Parties In L.A." & wrote 90 bars on the plane there!!!
That extra work is evident on "No More Parties in L.A." as West lyrically unfurls on the latter two-thirds of the six-minute track long after Lamar leaves the party. "I know some fans said I'd never rap like this again / But the writer's block is over / MCs cancel your plans / A 38-year-old ate your role, " West boasts on the new bars after earlier announcing he was feeling "uninspired since Lauryn Hill retired" and could relate with Andre 3000, the OutKast rapper who similarly distanced himself from music.
"All my niggas with babies by bitches / That use their kids as meal tickets / Not knowing the disconnect from the father / The next generation will be the real victims," West raps on "No More Parties," which also tackles issues like fatherhood, fame, his own fiery personality ("Every agent I know knows I hate agents") and that cousin who stole his laptop, previously mentioned in "Real Friends."
West revealed in Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton, a documentary about Stones Throw, that he was an admirer of producers under that label's umbrella, notably J Dilla and Madlib, and "No More Parties in L.A." also marks his first official collaboration with the latter. While Madlib admitted he worked on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Nightmare, none of his beats made it onto the LP itself. However, the "No More Parties in LA" beat and West's lyrics first surface in bonus footage from Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton.
"Over at the crib you left your Ray Bans / My sheets still orange from your spray tan / No more parties in L.A.," West says at the 22-minute mark of the short documentary, with West adding of their collaboration, "I just paint the scene of how I felt sitting there with Madlib working on these tracks and just hearing the textures." The track also utilizes the same sample of Ghostface Killah's "Mighty Healthy" that West used extensively on his Cruel Summer cut "New God Flow."
It's unclear whether "No More Parties in L.A." or "Real Friends" will appear on Swish, which West has revealed arrives February 11th.
