What’s Transformers without director Michael Bay? That remains a mystery for another film. The 50-year-old filmmaker revealed he would helm the fifth movie
during an interview with Rolling Stone. But he says it’s the last time he will direct a movie based on the Hasbro franchise.
“The middle-[budget] movie is basically gone. They just want these big movies,” Bay said. ”Transformers, I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else.”
Bay is working on pre-production of the second Transformers film with Mark Wahlberg starring. When Akiva Goldsman was picked to pen the film — who reportedly left to helm G.I. Joe and Micronauts writers rooms — Bay took to Twitter and said he had not decided on whether he would direct. Bay was already on board as an executive producer.Ew
