John Travolta Reveals He Turned Down Grease: Live—Find Out Why

When asked if the Grease: Live! producers approached him about taking part, the actor exclusively tells E! News:  "They did, but you know, that's my history."
Travolta also says he isn't considering the next just-announced live TV musical Hairspray (another movie he starred in). However, he is excited about Grease: Live! and will be watching it when it airs on Fox Jan. 31.

"Like Sound of Music and other things, to do a live production is kind of fun and it'll be interesting to see it," he tells E! News. "[Grease] is done every day in high schools, it's done every summer in summer theater."

Travolta hit the TCA Press Tour in Pasadena today to promote his role as Robert Shapiro in Ryan Murphy's limited series American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson, airing Feb. 2 on FX. It's been four decades since he last appeared as a regular on TV (in Welcome Back, Kotter), and he gives a stunning performance as O.J. Simpson defense attorney Robert Shapiro in the FX limited series, going head-to-head with co-prosecutor Johnny Cochran (Courtney B. Vance) in some explosive scenes.
Travolta revealed it took him four months to decide whether to do American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson. "I asked some incredible people, many incredible people for their opinion, and they all said to do it," he tells us, adding that it was his trust in Ryan Murphy that ultimately sealed the deal.
Travolta may be out, but Grease: Live! will have two (lesser-known) actors from the 1978 movie, Fox announced Friday: Didi Conn (Frenchy) and Barry Pearl (Doody). And according to Julianne Hough (Sandy), Olivia Newton-John told her she was supportive of her casting when she guest-judged on Dancing With the Stars. "This is my hero, this is my 5-year-old dream, so for her to give me that blessing to take that weight...I hope I make her proud has been very opening and I can come her and discover Sandy for myself and still honor what Olivia did. I hope that she's watching...she's better than you'd hope she would be."eonline,youtube
