Jos – Prof. Mathew Sule, the Executive Chairman, Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, on Tuesday called for establishment of health clubs in public schools to enlighten minors on prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Sule said in Jos that these clubs would be a good platform to elighten minors with the ultimate target of eradicating the pandemic in the society.
“The best time to inculcate the knowledge on the children is when they are minors; that is the time such awareness could be firmly rooted in the subconscious,” he said.
Sule said the health clubs, which were already part of school curriculum activities in Plateau, should serve as a platform for enlightenment on AIDS and the dangers it posed to the society.
Sule expressed regret that many children had been made orphans by the scourge, pointing out that such persons were worst hit because they would find it difficult to acquire education and other neccesities of life.
He said that abstinence was the most reliable method for the unmarried and faithfulness for the married.
The chairman advised teachers to be morally upright to serve as role models to the pupils.
The SUBEB boss said that the World AIDS Day should remind the society on the need to be more cautious morally.
He advised Niggerians to also ensure thorough screening before any transmission of blood.
NAN reports that the World AIDS Day is celebrated annually on Dec 1 to enlighten the society on the prevention, treatment and the campaign against stigmatisation of patients.
The theme of 2015 World AIDS Day is “Getting to Zero: Zero new infections; Zero discrimination; Zero AIDS-related deaths.vanguardngr
