Mel B is hopeful that the Spice Girls will officially be reuniting for their 20th anniversary, and we coulnd’t be more in need of some spice in 2016.
Scary Spice teased that a reunion was near while on U.K. TV special Alan Carr’s New Year’s Specstacular, according to The Mirror.
“I think I’m the one putting all the rumors out there,” she admitted. “To be serious, it is our 20th anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate…So hopefully something will be happening pretty soon…I can’t tell you what it is yet.”
If her own words are any indication, that “something” might definitely, maybe mean a reunion.
Even back in November, Mel B told Billboard, “Once we sort everything out we make an announcement, but right now we’re just figuring it all out. Next year is your 20 anniversary so we’re really just trying to make sure something happens.”
In addition, earlier this year, it was rumored the Spice Girls would pair up with the Backstreet Boys for a joint reunion tour. At the time, Nick Carter explained to E!, “There were talks in the past about it and we had done the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys tour in the past. I think this would be the last hurrah—the two big groups from the late ‘90s. Maybe do a world tour, stadiums, stuff like that and do a package together.”
The Spice Girls’ last reunion tour was in 2007, and they last performed together at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
So with Mel B keeping our hope alive, let us keep our fingers crossed that 2016 is the year, celebuzz
