Ode to Diana! Princess Kate Pays Tribute in Her Late Mother-in-Law's Tiara

See Princess Kate's Glittering Tiara Look
Happy holidays, tiara fans! Princess Kate dazzled in diamonds on Tuesday evening at Buckingham Palace in London. Kate, 33, joined Prince William at the annual reception held by Queen Elizabeth for diplomats and ambassadors.

The private event is closed to photographers, but the royal mom was snapped wearing the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, which was a favorite of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

The dazzling tiara, which boasts pearls suspended by diamond love knots, was commissioned by Queen Mary in 1913. Upon her death in 1953, the headpiece was given to Queen Elizabeth, who wore it for many years until she gave it to her new daughter-in-law, Princess Diana, as a wedding present in 1981. Diana appeared in several famous photos wearing the stunning sparkler. When she and Prince Charles divorced in 1996, Diana returned the tiara to the Queen.

Tonight was the first time Kate has been seen in the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, but she has worn the Lotus Flower tiara twice. She was first seen in the dazzling headpiece two years ago, when she was photographed going to the same reception. She wore it again at the State Banquet in honor of the visit of the Chinese president in October. The Egyptian-style tiara was previously owned and worn by the Queen's late sister, Princess Margaret.people
