Gladys Knight and the Pips member William Guest dies at 74

William Guest, one of the members of Gladys Knight and the Pips, has died at the age of 74.


His sister-in-law, Dhyana Ziegler, told the Associated Press he died Thursday in Detroit of congestive heart failure.


Guest performed with the Grammy-winning group from 1953-1989, singing background vocals on hits like “I Heard it night Train to Georgia.”

Gladys Knight and the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Apollo Hall of Fame in 2006.

After the group parted ways, Guest formed a production company with another Pips member, the late Edward Patten, and he later served as the CEO of Crew Records. In 2013, Guest released an autobiography, Midnight Train to Georgia: A Pips Journey, co-written with Ziegler. Ew
