Colbert: Trump Is a 'Frankenstein' Made of Money, Devoid of Facts

Stephen Colbert appeared on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, saying Donald Trump is a "Frankenstein of the idea that facts don't matter, and only money does." Speaking to host John Dickerson, Colbert said that he respected Trump for knowing exactly who his audience is and how to appeal to them.

"The people get to make the call, especially now, because the parties are so beholden to big money that the party apparatus itself has been dismantled in favor of just cash," Colbert said. "There aren't wise old people who get to make the call, because that's been farmed out to super PACs."

Colbert, whose Colbert Report character raised over a $1 million with his own satirical political action committee in 2011, said the Citizens United decision paved the way for Trump’s insurgent candidacy.

"In giving the power over to the super PACs, they’ve actually completely defanged the party themselves — that’s why you can’t stop a Trump," Colbert said.

Trump’s candidacy, the Late Show host went on, has made it impossible for him to imagine reprising his old Colbert Report character.

"He's my old character with $10 billion dollars," Colbert said. "That's one of the reasons I just can’t do that old character anymore because he’s doing it better than I ever could because he’s willing to drink his own Kool Aid — and manufacture and distribute it because he’s got the cash."rollingstone, youtube
