It's no secret — I tried plumping my lips like Kylie Jenner, look to Kim Kardashian's regimen for makeup inspiration, and model my manicures off Khloé Kardashian's claws.
I'm not the only one who's obsessed with them. In fact, if you were to tally up Kim's, Khloé's, Kylie's, Kourtney Kardashian's, and Kendall Jenner's Instagram followers, you'd have a total of nearly 217 million fans. When I consulted Jen Atkin, the sisters' go-to stylist, on why they have such a dedicated base of admirers, she gushed, "Oh my God — each individual girl has such unique style, and they're definitely true to themselves."
She went on to add, "I think everyone has really gravitated toward them because the girls are so honest and share everything along the way."
Because I watch them so closely, I can say with authority that 2015 was a banner year for all of them. For those of you who aren't fans, you may be wondering why. Read on to discover seven reasons they dominated beauty headlines this year!

Atkin was completely accurate when she described the women as honest and open, and this translates to their makeup routines. Kim shared how she achieves a tiny, narrow nose with makeup. Her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, divulged the numerous products he uses to get Kim glam (along with these before and after shots). Even Kylie disclosed her makeup, hair, and skin regimen. She also revealed that her plump lips come courtesy of Juvéderm
All five sisters debuted apps this year, with Kylie's site being especially popular. Fans love getting a sneak peek into the stars' lives, whether it's a live video session with Kendall or an inside look at Kylie's glam room. Kim even launched Kimoji, a set of emoji inspired by her life.
They started beauty trends.

After Kendall's heart-hair selfie became the most-"liked" picture on Instagram, fans around the world re-created the image, resulting in the trending #hearthair hashtag.
Kylie and her plump pucker inadvertently caused a viral social media challenge, which saw her fans attempting to achieve similarly plush pouts with suction. Many of them ended up injuring themselves, and others declared the #KylieJennerChallenge just one more example of cultural appropriation.
After Caitlyn made history with her Vanity Fair cover, she inspired fellow trans women, who created their own faux magazine covers using the hashtag #MyVanityFairCover.
They made bold changes to their looks.

Kim practically broke the Internet when she debuted platinum blond strands during Paris Fashion Week.
She wasn't the only one of her sisters to experiment with their hair. Kendall rocked a flaxen wig and a faux pink mane. Kylie dabbled in weaves in practically every shade of the rainbow. And Khloé chopped her coif into a sexy blond lob.
They inked major beauty deals.

Though Kylie was the face for Bellami hair extensions and Nip + Fab skin care in 2014, she dug even deeper into the beauty world in 2015 with her namesake Lip Kit, which sold out in under a minute.
Kendall signed a deal with Estée Lauder in late 2014, and her advertisements for the brand spread throughout 2015. She launched an exclusive lipstick with the company and became the face of its Modern Muse Le Rouge fragrance. She even landed a coveted spot in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
They worked on being their best selves.

Khloé fell in love with fitness after splitting with husband Lamar Odom, declaring that her new workout ethic was due to her pursuit of a revenge body. She even penned a New York Times bestseller, Strong Looks Better Naked.
