Jill Scott receives Soul Train Awards' first ever Lady of Soul Award

Jill Scott received the first ever Lady of Soul Award at Sunday’s Soul Train Awards, where the Grammy-winning singer talked about wanting to make music people could relate to in her acceptance speech.

“The goal was to be in your house when you make that new baby,” Scott said with a smile. “To be there to squash that argument, to incite it if necessary. I didn’t want to be sexy for anybody, I swear I didn’t. But I did want to write some sexy stuff for you.”

Scott’s released five albums in the past 15 years, and put out Woman this year. She has 13 Grammy nominations under her belt and has won three total. See the video of her acceptance speech below.ew
