Oscar winner Luptia Nyong’o’s character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been announced.
The director of this highly anticipated film JJ Abrams recently shared the deets in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Lupita’s character: Maz Kanata. Abram’s enlightened us about Maz’s past saying, “She was a pirate for a long time and she’s lived over a thousand years.” he told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s had this watering hole for about a century, and it’s like another bar that you’d find in a corner of the Star Wars universe.”
We have actually already seen Maz, and didn’t even know it. She was on the movie poster that was released earlier this fall. She is really easy to miss, so don’t worry if you didn’t notice. Why exactly is she wearing these goggles though? Abrams stated, “I had this pitch about these goggles that she wore. Her eyes are an important aspect of her character, and you’ll see how it plays out.” And Lupita added “As an actor for films, your eyes are a lot of the way you communicate anyway. So it was definitely a gift to have that be the means to her magic as a motion-capture character.” The movie hits theaters on December 18th and we can’t wait to see what is revealed.celebuzx
