Ice Cube’s James Payton and Kevin Hart’s Ben Barber may be the brothers-in-law (in both senses of the term), but that doesn’t mean James has much regard for Ben’s safety.

The new trailer for Ride Along 2 shows just how far James is willing to go to complete his mission, even if Ben ends up with many bullets in his bulletproof vest — and is attacked by an alligator. As Ben prepares to marry James’ sister Angela (Tika Sumpter), the two are assigned to a case in Miami where, as the trailer showcases, their field work isn’t without its setbacks.

“We just went bigger and better with the action. We wanted to turn up the comedy, do things people haven’t seen,” Ice Cube told EW about the plans to not retread the same ground as the 2014 hit. Ride Along 2, which also stars Ken Jeong and Olivia Munn, releases on Jan. 15, 2016.ew
