It’s been just 10 days since Kate Lanphear officially exited her role as editor in chief of Maxim—but already, the magazine is showing major evidence of her absence.
Lanphear made headlines last September after announcing that she’d be giving the men’s title a more sophisticated makeover, filled with fewer nude women and more in-depth articles and fashion industry-friendly editorials and spreads. For Maxim’s March 2015 issue—Lanphear’s first as EIC—the magazine’s cover showed a tight shot of Candice Swanepoel’s face, instead of her bare bod. A later issue had a headshot of Taylor Swift. And once, she had the audacity to put a dude on the cover! I liked it, but then again, I’m not exactly the target audience.
Anyway, that’s all over now. Lanphear is out, and as you can see from the image above, skin is back in. Maxim’s December/January cover features a full-body shot of Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio, wearing nothing but some sunglasses, a choker necklace, and a helluva lotta black eyeliner. In her hand, Ambrosio holds a strategically placed newspaper—just small enough to allow a peek of underboob to show.
“World’s Sexiest Businesswoman,” reads the headline—perhaps a nod to the lad mag’s return to business as usual. Welcome back, Maxim.
