A revised Porsche 911 will go on sale in the UK in December. It will
come with a number of updates, including a new turbocharged engine for
all models to improve performance, economy and emissions.
The 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine sticks with the classic Porsche 'flat six' design that gives the car its distinctive engine sound. However, with 370hp for the entry-point Carrera model and 420hp for the Carrera S, the new engine increases power over the previous models by 20hp. It also means the 0-62mph times of each model are reduced, with the Carrera now taking 4.2 seconds and the S just 3.9 seconds.
Porsche says the new engines make the revised 911 more frugal and it now returns 38.2mpg and 169g/km of carbon dioxide emissions in the Carrera fitted with the dual-clutch PDK gearbox. The S manages 36.7mpg combined average fuel consumption while emitting 174g/km of CO2.
A new Sport Chrono Package has been developed for the updated 911 that now features a "mode" switch on the steering wheel, which is a development of that used in the 918 hybrid supercar. It lets the driver choose between four modes, comprising Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual, to tailor the car's responses to the conditions or the driver's mood.
There is also a new Porsche Active Suspension Management system that lowers the car by 10mm when activated for an even sportier drive.
Inside, Porsche has updated the satellite navigation with voice control and online updates for traffic conditions.
The updated Porsche 911 costs from £76,412 for the Carrera coupe and £85,857 for the Carrera S model. source: bt
